POLICE STAFFING PROTEST
If the Government recommended policeman - people ratio of 1-790 was enforced, Mangakino would have four permanent officers in the town. But two constables are on transfer leaving one man to control the entire Mangakino police district. The Mangakino Town Committee expressed its concern to the monthly meeting of the Taupo County Council last week and has also conveyed its feelings to the Rotorua police department which controls the area. The county clerk, MrC.J. Coates, said in a letter to the department that frequent vandalism and numerous minor crimes justified the stationing of at least two policemen at Mangakino.
