When Christ was born i in Bethlehem kings from 1 far-away lands came bear- 1 ing gifts of great rarity and value. Everyone with- 8 in sight and sound of the Event came and brought gifts of one kind or another . . . the shepherds brought little new - born lambs as their humble offering. Off to a corner, un- j noticed, huddled a little I shepherdess, named Mad- j elon, who wept because she j had no gift for the Baby. j As her tears fell to the ] stable ground a miracle ] came to pass : small, lovely ]
blooms sprang up among X the tears ; Madelon quickly | gathered them and ran to S show the Child the beauti- a ful flowers. J Little Jesus touched the i blooms with his tiny fin- jj gers and behold ! the petals jj flushed rosy pink ! This was the Christmas rose. 'Tis said that to this'j! day, every year, when jj Christmas comes (and not Sj until that day) the Christ- j!
