TRIBUTE TO RETIRING PRESIDENT
"A record of continued and devoted service which few could equal in any golf club." This tribute to the retiring president, Mr G. F. Barlow, was paid by the incoming president, Mr M. J. Morel, at Monday night's annual meeting of the Taupo Golf Club. Before Mr Barlow decided not to seek reelection this year, he had amassed 14 years' service as a member of the committee, club captain and, for the past five years, as president, Mr Morel said.
Mr Morel's remarks were endorsed by the senior vicepresident Mr K. S. Neill, and the meeting placed on record its appreciation of Mr Barlow's work.
There was keen interest in the election of officers, headed by a ballot for the presidency in which Mr Morel was successful over Mr Gilbert Wilson. There were three candidates for the office of vicecaptain. with Mr P. S. D. Haworth being elected from Messrs R. J Daly and P. A. Kunac. Ten contenders sought five seats on the committee, with the successful candidates Messrs T. W. Halverson, N. R. Hinckesman, FI. K Koopu, E. H. Oliver and J. H. Purcell. Unsuccessful candidates were Messrs N W. T Dolman, H. Philpott, J A. Ridley, J. W. Stevens and V. A. Wilson. Officers elected unopposed were: Patron, Mr G. F. Colbeck; senior vice-presi-dent, Mr Neill; honorary vice presidents, Messrs S. W. Ellingham and R. G. Tappenden; club captain, Mr M. B. Orr; auditor, Messrs Watson,
Blampied and Partners. The women's representatives on the committee are Mrs E. Barling and Miss C. Scott.
