Investigating site

Mr Trevor Hosking, a Taupo member of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, has been investigating this historic site on the Tongariro Power development scheme near Turangi. A Ministry of Works spokesman in Turangi said yesterday that the area would probably

be flooded in late 1971 or early 1972. The diggings were made to confirm signs of previous Maori occupation of the area which had been shown in aerial photographs. It was known that the area would be eventually flooded and investigations of the site were started.
