Big surf fishing contest

About 1000 entries are expected for a $1000 surf fishing competition to be staged, by the Rotorua Fishing and Casting Club on Sunday, Jariuary 31, along a nine-mile stretch of beach between Matata and Otamarakau. Competition will be open to all surfcasters with each person restricted to two rod or hand lines First prize of $500 will be for the heaviest snapper landed and the second biggest snapper will gain a prize of .$200. Cash prizes will total $750 and trophies will make up the remaining $250. There will be 15 prizes This year's competition for prize-money of $600 attracted 476 entrants, including a number of Taupo fishermen.
