Solar Corona

This picture is said to show more detail of the solar corona than any other photograph ever taken. It was taken in the mountains of Mexico during the March 7 eclipse of the sun by Dr. Gordon Newkirk of the High Altitude Observatory of Boulder, Colorado. The 1970 solar eclipse was the most intensely observed eclipse in history. It was seen by 800

scientists from 14 countries who gathered in Mexico for the event. Research planes took an above-the-weather look, and NASA scientists sent up about 30 rocket probes.
