SANDS OF TIME

A Putaruru man gathering pipis at Papamoa Beach recently found a sealed cordial bottle floating in the tide. It contained a piece of folded paper. The message, Mr R. Tipping discovered, was a Christmas greeting from the crew of the motor-ship, Huntingdon, of London, "to whom it may concern." It carried the signatures of the bosun and 12 * crew members. The ship arrived in Auckland on September 19 and sailed on Novemb,er 11.
