Cheque for $50

A donation was made to the Red Cross Society by pupils of the Broadlands Primary School at the breakup ceremony last week. A cheque for $50 was handed to Mrs A. H. Hope, an executive member of the society and honorary Junior Red Cross organiser for the Taupo centre, by pupils Pauline Nesdale and Kay Crawford. Mrs Hope thanked the school for its efforts and said Red Cross had a huge job to do in the world today. Items were presented by the respective classes and the head teacher Mr J. Stevens, put a group of gymnasts through their paces in front of a large crowd of parents. He explained the technique of gymnastics and pupils

demonstrated the basics. *' The chairman of the school committee, Mr N. Crawford, appealed for the continuing assistance and cooperation of parents, saying the call for amenities would be a continuing thing. The next big project would * be the heating of the school swimming baths to allow for an extended swimming season. Mrs Crawford presented certificates to pupils and soft drinks and ice creams were dispensed as the adults had afternoon tea. F ootnote : A surprise presentation was made to Mr Stevens by Standard 4 pupils who next year move on to secondary school. They gave him a suitably engraved silver cigarette box.
