COMBINED PARTY
A gaily decorated Presbyterian Hall was the venue for over 200 women who attended the Combined Churches' Women 's Christmas party last week. A very warm welcome was extended with a wish that all would enjoy this first ever united effort held in Taupo. Each of the six churches represented were responsible for part of the programme which proved in turn either bright and gay or serious and thought provoking, quite varied, delighting the audience. The programme opened with a well performed Scottish Country dance, which set many toes tapping. The fashion parade that followed was amusing and beautiful, including wedding frocks over 40 years old.
Next came a choir, who sang a bracket of lovely and unusual Christmas carols. On a serious note was a musical monologue, "The Old Violin — or The Master's Touch," which gave food for thought and was greatly appreciated. Queen of Quiz was amusing, three brave women coming on to the stage to climb the ladder of knowledge and receive a prize. The final, and fitting, end to the programme was "A Christian Christmas Mime," German in origin, depicting someone hoping to see his Lord's face, and proving through Christlike concern for the destitute, the lonely, and the lost, he indeed met his Lord.
A community carols by candlelight gave all an opportunity to sing their favourites while a delicious supper was being served. The evening closed with short devotions and benediction. The collection of $23 will be used for the care of the elderly.
