Leech Now On Plus Two
Handicap
T. S. Leech was reduced from a plus oue handicap to plus two at the Taupo Golf Club during the weekend. He climaxed several weekends of sub-par golf with a fine 67, five under bogey, 011 Saturday afternoon to win an A grade medal round competitlon with a nett 68. He also won the 'president's troph}^ decided on the best three of four nett medal rounds played during the season. Leech's nett total of 207 (gross 204) was nine strokes below bogey figures of 216. The runner-up was J. McMaster jun., 210, and D. Pattenden was third with 216. Pattenden was the winner of Saturday's B grade medal with a nett 70. Stableford competitions resulted: A grade', Leech 40, W. Hindmarsh 38; B grade, Pattenden 38, R. Stevens 36.
Prize-winners in the twos competition were G. Marsland, Pattenden, R. Heid, T. Halverson, T. C 1 a p perton and H. Hawkes. A strong wind made playing conditions difficult on Sunday and scoring was affected. E. M. Smith won the stableford event on the count-back from Leech, both returning 35 points. Mrs Parry had an excellent 37 points, including two twos, to win the ladies' stableford competition. Miss C. Scott was runner-up with 30. B. R. Harper was .the only player to card a two. Two junior players figure among this week's handicap list. Wayn-e Sharrock, who gained his handicap only a few weeks ago, was reduced from 15 to 13 following several excellent rounds. Bill Brown has gained a handicap of 28. Other handicap changes are: W. Dolman, 7 to 6; R. W. Weir, 14 to 13; G. West, 13 to 12; R. Stevens, 15 to 14; D. Pattenden, 14 to 13; R. Morgan, 13 to 12; I. Lawson, 29 to 28.
