Three - Mile Swim Planned
On the Lake
The Taupo Swimming Club will sponsor a threemile swimming competition on Lake Taupo in the last week of January. The direction of the race will be decided after members have made a survey of likely start and finish positions. One suggestion was that the swim start from Four Mile Bay and finish at a point offshore from the end of Tongariro Street. There will be no restric-
tion of sex or age of entrants, although all competitors must have a 440 yards swimming qualification. Any number of swimmers may start at the same time and each swimmer will be accompanied by a lifeboat. The club will advertise the event with other water sports clubs throughout the North Island. Prizes will be given to the winners. Members of the Taupo club think the three-mile race in the lake will be almost equal to a five-mile swim in salt water.
