MRS STEVENSON SPEAKS
AT TURANGI
The decision to establish a full public library service in Turangi by the National Library Service was announced by Mrs Rona Stevenson at a meeting in Turangi last night. She said she felt this was important for a happy community. Mrs Stevenson spoke to a gathering of supporters, giving a report on her stewardship during the past 18 months. Speaking of plans for Turangi houses, she said she had disapproved of some of those originally drawn up and made representations to the Minister concerned. "I could not help feeling some of these plans were drawn up by men," she remarked. However, she had been successful 'in having the offending plans withdrawn. Of Turangi, Mrs Stevenson said: "It must be quite the most exciting'thing to be living in a town such as this which is literally going through the birth-pangs. "I feel education is being very well catered for in Turangi which has been select-
ed as one of the trial areas for a form one-to-six school," she w.ent on. "Approval had been given to the building of a second new primary school at Turangi," Mrs Stevenson said. "This school, like the first now in use, would be prebuilt in Hamilton to a plan specially designed by the South Auckland Education Board and transported to Turangi. It would consist of 10 classrooms and a dental clinic. This accommodation would be needed for children from the housing development being undertaken in connection with the hydro projects in the area."
