TENURE OF RUGBY CUPS

South Waikato's continued possession of the Peace and Finlay Cups induces speculation ahout « records of tenure for the trophies. It is not easy to ascertain the sub-union which has won the greatest number of consecutive games 4 for the Peace Cup. The number of competing subunions has varied with the years. However, Rotorua, Thames and Morrinsville have had their names inscribed on the cup for three years running — a feat which is now within the accomplishment of South Waikato.

Thames and Hamilton exchanged possession of the Peace Cup regularly in the 1920's, but for some years they were the only two subunions which played for the trophy. Morrinsville, with flve consecutive years of possession during the 1940's, holds the record for Finlay Cup tenure. South Waikato, with three years of possession, is now well in the upper bracket.
