APPROVAL IN PRINCIPLE TO DINE AND DANCE AT THE HUKA FALLS
The possibility of a dine-and-dance restaurant being established at Huka Falls was mentioned by the chairman, Mr H. M. Besley, at Tuesday's meeting of the Taupo County Council. The council was considering an application which sought approval in principle to building a tearooms there. Mr Besley said that the locality would be well suited for a dine-and-danoe restaurant and asked that that be considered by the council in formulating a motion on the subject. After discussion of a letter from the applicant, Mr R. R. Lane, Taupo, the council resolved to approve -in principle, the establishment of a tearooms and or, a dine-and-dance restaurant in the vicinity of Huka Falls, providing drainage and building standards conformed to council requirements. The District Commissioner of Crown Lands and the applicant will be informed accordingly. In his letter, Mr Lane pointed out that Huka Falls were up to international re-
sort standards. He considered tearooms were necessary and in the public interest as an automatic adjunct to the scenic attraction. The county engineer, Mr G. B. Burton, pointed out that it would not be pos- j sible to get proper drainage in the lower area. Cr U. R. MacDonald said he was all in favour of the idea if drainage and building by-laws could be complied with. If the | council approved in prin- I ciple, then the applicant, j or anyone else who had similar ideas, could deal j with the Commissioner of Crown Lands.
