Another £5000 From
Businessmen
Many of the business people in Taupo recognise the need for a large hall in the town and have devised a scheme by which they hope to raise a further £5000, leaving only £5000 to be raised by the planned queen carnival. On the basis of £50 unitary contributions, either by individuals, hrms, groups, service organisations or any combination of individuals, the businessmen plan to raise this major amount. It is apparent it only requires 100 contributions to attain the target.
The measure of success which can be expected from the scheme is evidenced by the fact that already contributions have been made or promised. Woolworths (NZ) Ltd. have made a contribution of £100, which was handed to the centre trust fund this morning by the Taupo manager, Mr P. White. Other contributions to hand are: — Mr and Mrs J. E. Story, Timber and Building Supplies, W. L. Haines Ltd., McLean's Furnishing, Mrs Taima Gillies, Taupo Dry Cleaners, E. T. Vincent Ltd., Gillespie Bros., Tom Keehan's
Delicatessen, E. R. Holmes Ltd., Gordon Gillies, all £50 each. Further amounts will be solicited and in the case of individuals, their promise will be acknowledged, but in the case of groups, acknowledgment wiU only be made when the money is to hand.
The need for this step is obviously because of the changing structure of groups. All contributions should be made to the Taupo Borough Council, which will hold the money ^ in trust until the building is ready to begin. Out-of-town merchants are to be asked to contribute wvhere they deal extensively in Taupo.
