Raincoat Clad Cattle Startle Devon Farmers
Stephanus and Patricia Rautenback, who left. their Hamilton, New Zealand, farm for one in Devon, startled locals recently when they decked out their Channel Island cattle in duckcloth raincoats. They reckoned they would protect the cattle from showers and enable them to be kept outdoors during the winter. The idea was a success and saved cleaning out the cowsheds. What they didn't expect was the avalanche of pressmeai who descended when the news got around. "Raincoats for cows are new in Britain, but quite common in New Zealand," said Mrs Rautenback. "We are very surprised at the inteirest shown. We have appeared on three television shows, besides giving interviews to farming journalists." The Rautenfoacks, who have six children, farmed in South Africa before going to the Hamilton district. They went to Britain 4 £ years ago to be near Mrs Rautenback's parents, and have 23 acres at Sunnyland Farm, Dalwood, Devon.
