NEW CHRYSLER VALIANT TESTED IN TAUPO
By
Camshaft.
The new range of Chrysler Valiants now available in New Zealand represent some of the better types of big family saloons and station wagons on the road. I don't say they are the best, because in the first place there are several new models in this class I haven't driven yet, but the Chrysler certainly ehecked out in the high bracket.
It was a little unfortunate that the model I tested was brand-spanking new and there was not the time available to put in an exhaustive test. Superficially, however, there was little to fault it in design or performance. With tight gears and a motor which could not be put to full revs, the performance was not exactly in the
class of the earlier model I tested some 12 months ago, which was a real ball of fire. Since the latest Valiant is 145 h.p., I predict it will have lots of "zoom" too and owners I have spoken to seem more than satisfied. The interior has been modified and both decor and instrumentation are improved. A nicely laid-out instrument panel gives the driver all the information he needs in a quick glance. Inside there is lots of room for six people with a big luggage boot at the rear. Comfort is a by-word in the Valiant and the driving position, particularly, impressed me. I am looking forward to driving this car again when it is run in and to comparing it with similar models of other makes on the market.
