TWO DAWSONS HOLD BIG LEAD IN TROPHY GOLF
A spectacular combined score of 82 stableford points by Mr and Mrs Barron Dawson gave them a commanding lead in the first round of the Hawke's Bay Trophy event at the Taupo Golf Club on Sunday. The event, an aggregate stableford for men and women, is decided over 36 holes! The final 18 holes will be played next Sunday. On Sunday, Mrs Dawson carded 23 points for each half with a round of 80, 18 — 62. Her husband collected 25 points in the first nine holes and, despite a lapse of form in the second half, finished with handicap figures of 36 points. K. Rameka and Mrs Painter are in second place with 76 points and G. Marsland and Mrs K. Garlick hold third position with 72 points. A men's stableford competition on Sunday was won by K. Rameka 42, with H. Oliver runner-up with 39. Mrs Dawson -was an easy winner of a ladies' stableford with 46, followed by Mrs Garlick 37. Twos were carded at the third hole by P. Brown, E. Smith and R. Wilson. On Saturday a stableford i I event was played in A and B grades.
P. Arnott was successful with 40 (A grade) and M. Morel took the honours in the B grade with 37 points. The concurrent stableford scramble resulted: A grade, P. Arnott 40, H. Hawkes 38; B grade, M. Morel 37, R. Wilson 36. Twos were gained at the 4th hole by G. Barlow and T. Price.
