Speech Contest Finals At
College
Graham Tritt, a 6B student, speaking on "Churchill,'1 on Monday night won the Jaycee Cnp for the best senior speaker at the Taupo-nui-a-Tia College speech contest finals held in the assembly hall. In addition, he also won the senior boys' section from Robin Wall, 5A, who spoke on "The Journey of Tia." The unsuccessful finalists were Bret Halverson, 6A, "Churchill," and Michael Tritt, 6A, "Early Bird and the Communication Satellites." The senior girls1 division was won by Loretta Kawhe, 5A, "The Maori Today," with Jennifer Stuart, 6B, "Racial Segregation," runner-up. The other finalists were Margaret Calkin, 5A, "Nobel," and Kay
Sutherland, 5A, "Life of a Swan." George James, 4A, "H. G. Wells," was adjudged the winner of the junior boys1 section, with Alan Calderwood, 4T, "Operation Overlord," in second place. The other finalists were Noel Stuart, 3X, "New Guinea," and Alan Titshall, 3Y, "Archery." The junior girls' division was won by Marguerite Rolfe, 4A, "Klu Klux Klan," with Christine Alve, 3Z, "Florence Nightingale," run-ner-up. Other finalists were Janice Fry, 3Y, "Joan of Arc," and Sally Horne, 3Z, "Kennedy." The adjudicators were Mr A. Monagan (Napier), senior; and the Rev. N. R. Martin (Taupo), junior. The contest was sponsored by Taupo Jaycee and the prizes were presented by Mrs R. Cranswick, wife of ' the Jaycee president
