"Cleared Conscience" Of 30 Burglary, Conversion Offences; Sentenced To 26 Months
Pleading guilty to 30 charges of conversion and burglary, Peter Moko Samuel, 22, workman, was convicted and sentenced to 26 months imprisonment by Mr G. J. Donne, 8.M., in the Taupo Magistrate's Court yesterday. Already serving a prison sentence, Samuel asked that the charges, which he voluntarily admitted to the police, should be dealt with in order that he would have a clear conscfence when he completed his sentences. The charges included 11
conversions of cars, one of a bicycie and 18 for burglary. The offences were committed in various parts of the North Island between December 24, 1964, and April 4, 1965. For Samuel, Mr J. L. Wragge said it appeared obvious that Samuel was not the only man on the jobs. He had been motivated in making his confessions to ''come out with a clear conscience." Mr Donne said it was to Samuel's credit that he desired to do the right thing.
