WELFARE WORK AT OTEMATATA
In spite of the completion of the Benmore project, the future of the Otematata Welfare Association is still promising, according to a report in the Otematata Chronicle. In his annual report, the retiring president, Mr Barry Butcher, said that the association would continue to fill an active and important role in the community. Provision of faeilities at the new village to be created in the Upper Waitaki would be a challenge to the new committee and a project for some of the association's strong flnancial reserves. The association's trading accounts revealed an over all proflt of £3,146, £52 more than in the previous year. The project mechanical engineer, Mr T. Hodge, is the new president, and the secretary is Mr A. C. S. McCormick.
