Progress On Hinemaiaia B Dam Hampered By Bad Weather
Nearly £20,600 of work has ' now been done on the construction of the new Hinemaiaia B power station. Reporting this to last week's meeting of Taupo Borough Council, the electrical engineer, Mr K. G. Stewart, said the contractor was hampered by bad weather in June. " A programme of work has been prepared by the contractor and although some discussions have still to be held with the consultants in this matter it looks as though a tentative target date for first run of the new plant might be set at July 1, 1966. The only indication of machinery delivery delay so far is from the butterfly
valve manufacturers," said Mr Stewart. Canadian Construction Limited has completed the east wing wall of the dam and the 7ft. x 6in. conduit was poured to the 150ft. mark and the concrete invert foundation was poured to the 325ft. mark. The base of the gauging station tower was poured. A second canyon, evidently an old course of the river, has been revealed in the ignimbrite. This canyon, which crosses the spillway wall close to the intake structure, was excavated to solid. The bottom proved to be about 18 feet below the top of the spillway wall. L. M. Saunders Limited is now 80 per cent. complete on the conduit bench excavation. Two culverts and some 100 feet of perforated pipe were placed in the conduit bench to drain off seepage water.
