Money From Forest Land

The Matamata County Council proposes to convene a meeting with the Taupo and Whakatane County Councils to discuss the valuation of land used for exotic forests with the aim of obtaining some form of revenue from the land. Advice was received at the Matamata County's monthly meeting that the Taupo County Council had already appointed three delegates to the meeting. The meeting would produce some useful reports, although it was questionable if any progress would be made, Cr J. T. Kneebone (Hinuera Riding) said. The council had looked into the matter some years ago and had forwarded remits which, however, were not acceptable to the Government, the clerk, Mr K. A. Otto, said. To enable research to be carried out, the meeting with the other counties should not be held before September, he added.
