Mr Thorpe Transferring To Taupo County Council
Borough engineer at Morrinsville since May, 1959, when he succeeded Mr B. J. Jackson (now city engineer at Wanganui), Mr G. B. Thorpe has been appointed assistant engineer to the Taupo County Council.
He will terminate his appointment at Morrinsville on Friday, October 22, and eommence his new duties on Tuesday, October 26. He will work in the Turangi area of the Taupo county, and particularly in relation to Turangi town which is being rapidly enlarg" * to cater for personnel for the Tongariro power project. It is anticipated that the council on April 1, 1968, w*" ^ke over the control and r ing of the Ministry of Works' section, which will be fully serviced. The existing town is at present without ^ior 'services, and it seems certain that the roads will have to be upgraded and water supply provided.
Sewage reticulation is also likely, and Mr Thorpe will have the responsibility for the design of these works. He will be responsible to the county engineer, Mr G. B. Burton, fr the invt tigation, designing, planning and
carrying out of such works as the Taupo County Council decides, and will be required to attend meetings of the Turangi liaison committee set up under the Turangi Township Act, 1964. He will also be required to keep closely in touch with work carried out in the township by the Ministry of Works.
