Car Club Meeting Was Enthusiastically Attended
The Taupo Car Club's annual meeting at the St. John Ambulance Hall . was extremely well attended and enthusiasm was high. The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron, Mr C. I. Jacoby; president, Mr A. A. Munson; vice-president, Mr B. R. Service; club captain, Mr D. B. Griffin; treasurer, Mr J. Walker; secretary, Miss Y. Elmiger; committee, Messrs D. Dawson, R. McFarlane, P. Smith, D. Wallace, R. Graham, R. G. Haggett, P. Christenson. In addition it was decided to appoint a public relations officer and Mr G. G. Boot was elected to this position. The club discussed its coming events, and it was decided to hold a series of gymkhanas in order to select a team to compete in the annual inter-club gymkhana championships, to be held in Taupo later this year.
The club is sendmg Mr Boot to Wellington to attend the annual meeting of the Association of N.Z. Car Clubs Inc., for the purpose of applying for gold star status to be awarded to the interclub gymkhana event. If this is granted it will mean that this event will be counted towards the New Zealand gold star events in this country and will be a major event. In September, the club is planning to hold a "speed weekend." This will consist of a sprint on the Saturday afternoon, followed by a social evening, and a hill climb on the Sunday. It is anticipated that a large number of visiting drivers will attend this event. A magazine committee has been appointed to produce the club's popular monthly magazine. This will ensure prompter production and a wider coverage of club activities altogether. This committee consists of the following: Mr B. Gardner, Miss
Y. Elmiger, Miss R. Boot and Mr R. Davies (chairman), A separate committee has also been appointed to organise the inter-club gymkhana event, which has reached sufficient magnitude now to warrant this. Supper was served and the evening concluded with the donation of a trophy to be known as the "Four Seasons Motel Trophy," generously donated by Mr J. E. Munson to be competed for annually by the drivers in gymkhana events. The driver with the best overall aggregate points for the year's gymkhana events will receive this trophy. Mr G. Boot also donated a trophy to be known as the "Ray Boot and Son Ltd." trophy for competition between the lady members of the club in the same type of event.
