Fire Destroys Cottage At Waitahanui

Fire completely destroyed a holiday cottage at the northern end of Waitahanui on Saturday night. It had been unoccupied for some days. The building was well alight before being noticed by a local resident who asked Mr G. R. White, of Waitahanui Lodge, to give the alarm. The Taupo Volunteer Fire Brigade, who were holding their annual social for the presentation of awards, arrived at the fire in less than seven minutes from the time the call was received. Only a light puinp could be taken in to the fire because an approach bridge was not robust enough to take a heavier vehicle. There was no threat to nearby property. The chief officer^ Mr S. K. Christensen, said yesterday it was not known how the fire started. The building belonged to Mr R. Prangley, Mangere.
