NO VARIATION FOR HOTEL

A decision not to allow Dominion Breweries to vary the standard by-law requirements for the new hotel at Turangi was made by Taupo County Council on Tuesday. The company forwarded its plans for the single-storey building, to be constructed in two stages, with a request to vary the conditions relating to the fire-proofing of the building. Cr U. R. MacDonald objected to this step. "The township is only just starting," he said. "If we are going to make allowances for a brewery, then we have to back-track. We insisted on full standards from the Government — we have always insisted on full standards." Cr MacDonald's resolution "that the brewery be required to comply with the bylaws" was supported by most councillors.
