Parks Reserve Planned For
Taupo Horticultural and Beautifying Society has made representations to Taupo Borough Council for the establishment of a trust in connection with the proposed Waipahihi botanical reserve. This move was made in conjunction with the Royal institute of Horticulture and the Taupo Forest and Bird Protection Society. The proposals are now being considered by Government and local bodies. The Taupo Borough Council has agreed to the society submitting a plan for scenic planting of the new access road from the control gates to the Woolworth's corner. The society has for some time shown its concern for the provision of public gardens in Taupo and this year it is once again maintaining tree planting of the lake front and other areas. In his annual report to the society, the president, the Rev. N. R. Martin, said the committee foresees the time when there will be a need for a superintendent of public gardens and reserves, appointed by council, in Taupo. "Only through such an appointment can there be overall control and proper development and maintenance of Taupo's natural scenic attractions," he said.
