Payment For County Town Committee
The question of payment to county town committees and to councillors sitting on them was not resolved when Taupo County Council met on Tuesday. The council had inquired of the Department of Internal Affairs concerning payment in these cases and the department replied that it would not support such a suggestion. "The county town committees are only of an advisory nature," said the department. Cr U. R. MacDonald said it was quite obvious the question had gone right over the department's heads. "First of all they agree the committees of the council are legitimate cases, then they turn down the county towns," he said. "I suggest they have no idea of what goes on at town committee meetings. There is more business transacted than at committee meetings." Discussion then lapsed.
