TRAFFIC
Sir, — As .a visitor to your town for the past 10 years may I have a grizzle that irks a city dweller when he comes to Taupo. The entry to your town from the north is confused by traffic islands that are too large and hinder the free flow of traffic. Your angl-e parking is wrong as the regulations state that the vehicle must be 18 inches from the curb. My friend tore his trousers on a mudguard protruding over the
footpath by 18 inches (traffic department please note). Take a look any time of the day there will be up to 100 cars obstructing the footpath. Between the Memorial Hall and the Post Office we have had, for the past 10 years, a pile of rocks, drums and concrete making a parking boundary, or is it a memorial to a sl-eeping councillor? At the Napier turn-off we have another pile of rocks too close to the corner and it has been hit twice by cars recently. Will this rock pile stay for 10 years also? Finally the council says it is very worried about smasbes in the borough. If they were to talk to any visitor who has had a smash here they would find that the visitor thought the right hand rule was in his favour until, after the smash, he saw the give way sign. Hope this grizzle has not upset the city fathers un: duly. — Yours, etc.,
R.
