Thefts From Milk Bottles

In Taupo Area

A series of thefts of cash from milk bottles has occurred in Taupo during the past tnree weeks, In one area, 25 thefts were reported in one night and there has been an average of about six nightly. The area where most of the thefts have occurred is that in the north-east of Taupo between Pihanga Street and Taupo View Road, extending to the Tauhara School and AC Baths Avenue. Many occurred in Rotokawa Street.

The south ern part of the town has also been visited by thieves. Last Thursday night a vendor gave chase to two boys oh bicycles but did not catcli up with them. He g/>t a fair description of the boys, however. Although there have been numerous thefts, only two cases have been reported to the police recently.

The police, and vendors, strongly recommend residents to use tokens for their daily deliveries of milk. Two Taupo boys who had oeen reported missing from their homes on July 4 and 5 were taken in charge by Child Welfare authorities on Friday afternoon. They will appear in a children's court in connection with a series of burglaries.
