A Rugby team and two basketball teams from the Tokaanu District High School travelled to Taupo last week for games with teams from the Taupo-nui-a-Tia College. The Tokaanu footballers were recruited from a total of 40 boys available at the school and played the College's second fifteen, the college winning by 19 points to 3. The Tokaanu basketball A team won their match with Taupo senior B by 32 to 22. The Tokaanu B team lost their match against the college Third Form A, the score being 26 to 16. After the games the visitors were entertained to afternoon tea hy the college and everyone agreed that the day had been most enjoyable. Because of its comparative isolation and the small number of secondary pupils attending Tokaanu District High( there has been little opportunity in the past for social and sporting contacts with other schools. However, as the school roll increases, which it will do now with the influx of families arriving in Turangi in connection with the power seheme, there should be more opportunity for the Tokaanu children to send teams to other schools and in return act as guests to teams coming to Turangi.
