A Motley Of Basketball Played Here Last Week
College played its worst basketball game in weeks when the team was beaten by Bears in the Taupo Indoor Basketball Association matches in the Memorial Hall last week. H. Moates, playing for Bears, showed improvement in his performance as did M. Taute, who played for College. Checkers and Aratiatia had a very even game with Aratiatia ahead by four points. Tauhara were too strong for Jesters but there was some good scoring by E. Darlington. . Tauhara I. beat Beatles. Comets were the better team in the first game . on Thursday night against Educats. Full marks must go to C. Draper for the game she played and a personal seore of 16 points. Teachers, with three players away with the representative team, did not have things all their own way against Huka, only ihaving the narrow margin of eight points. Eagles beat All Stars by six points. For Eagles G. Tewano played her best game of the season and scored 16 points. Another player who played her best game was C. Watkins with a personal tally of 10 points. For All Stars, B. Bramley and R. Darlington did some ter-
rdffc work for their team. All men's games were non - competition because a lot of players were at Tauranga with the representative team competing in the North Island B Grade championship. In the previous week's games Teachers beat 60/8. For Teachers G. Furlong with 32 points and R. Lewes 28 points were too strong a scoring combination for the lesser experienced 60/8. Lavenders caused an upset when they beat Educats by a narrow margin. One of the best games seen in Taupo for a long time was between Tauhara I and Bears. Tauhara are golng to take a lot of toppling during the present season with their good teamwork. For Bears J. Ireland was outstanding. Aratiatia were too strong for All Stars. Demons downed Hillbillies by a margin of 24 points. College played good basketball to beat Tauhara II by 26 points. A. Davies' personal tally of 28 points for Beatles was not enough to give them a win against a much improved Huka. J. Tawhai with 18 points, A. McKinnon and D. Clarke with 10 points had good games for the winners.
