Fined For Theft Of Timber
Appearing for sentence on a charge of theft as a servant of timber valued at £1/0/3, John William Gullery, 30, Turangi carpenter, was fined £5, in Taupo Magistrate's Court on Monday. For theft of a battery, valued at £11, Henry Charles Harimate, 33, bushworker, Iwitahi, was convicted and remanded for sentence until August 2. Two Motuoapa chainmen, Harley Phillip Thomassen, 18, and Cecil George le Compte, 17, pleaded guilty to unlawfully taking a motor car from Motuoapa on June 11. Sergeant T. A. A. Marson said both had admitted they had no authority to take the vehicle. Thomassen had taken the kays from the owner's pocket and drove the car. He hit a bank and damage costing £40 resulted. Both had been drinking. They were convicted and remanded to August 2.
