Civil Defence On

A meeting will be held at Taupo on Wednesday, July 21, to launch the town's civil defence scheme. The meeting will be attended by the civil defence commissioner for the north-
ern area, Captain L. P. Bourke. This information was given in an address on civil defence to the Taupo Rotary Clnb on Thnrsday night by the Taupo town - clerk, Mr K. G. Winton. He said the Taupo civil defence scheme had already been formally approved and next week's meeting was intended to get the scheme working. Mr Winton said civil defence was largely common sense, but it was essential to organise people in the event of a natural disaster or warfare. He described an Australian Government course which he recently attended at Macedon, about 35 miles from Melbourne. Individual households in. Taupo would be circularised giving full details of the scheme as soon as working plans were completed. Mr Winton appealed for full snpport for the scheme — "we need help from everyone if the Scheme is to succeed.'*
