Schedules Of Accommodation Expected Within Few Weeks

Approval of the schedules of accommodation for the propo, sed 25-hed general hospital for the Taupo area wa,s expected from the Health Department within a few weeks, the area member of the Waikato Hospital Board, Mr J. WT. Birnie, reported to the Taupo Borough Council this week. The board had prepared the schedules and planned the essential services so that a greater number of patients could be eatered for. Mr Birnie considered that a 100-bed hospital would ultimately be necessary, particularly in view of the expected population build up in Turangi. As soon as the schedules were approved, working drawings would be prepared

and tenders called for the hospital building when they were readv. Negotiations with the Lands and Survey Department for the site in Kotare Road were well under way and their completion would not impede the progress of the hospital, he said. Mr Birnie also said that schedules for the Tokoroa Hospital had been approved and working. drawings would soon be started. Extensions to the Taupo Maternity Hospital now under way should cater for the needs of the area for some time to come, he added.
