CLUB MAY BE OPENED TO SOCIAL MEMBERS
Taupo Yacht Club mayj invite non-yachting members to join the club following the annual meeting to be held on August 11. A motion to include "social members" in the club will be presented at the meeting. The motion will read: — "That the constitution of the Lake Taupo Yacht Club be altered or amended to include the admission of social members. Such members, on being nominated and seconded by existing full members, will be admitted at the discretion of the general committee, on payment of £1 entry fee and be liable for ar- annual subscription to be fixed by the general committee. No person under the age of 18 years will be admitted as a social member. Social members will not have vot.ing rights, nor will they be eligible to appointment as a flag officer, secretary or treasurer. They will not
be eligible to serve on any committee except the social committee. "Social members will be entitled to have free access to, and use of all yacht club facilities and will be eligible to attend all yacht club activities." The proposer of the motion was Mr R. Greenwell and the seconder Mr J. Harman. Mr Greenwell said the purpose of proposing the admission of social members was to provide another source of revenue for the club and to bring in senior members who were interested in the club's act.ivities without necessarily wanting to participate in yachting. He said such members would support and popularise the social side of the club's affairs and they would provide a pool of manpower as officials when administering club activities. Finally, the scheme would encourage wives and friends of members to join and feel a part. of the club without the burden of a full membership subscription.
