Petition Calls For Right To Demand A Poll

A "substantial number" of the ratepayers in the Mihi East area have petitioned Taupo County Council to have the Local Government Commission call for a poll on the question of boundaries. Some of the ratepayers want to transfer to the Rotorua County, others want

to stay in Taupo County area. The petition called on the county to inform the commission that the present method of boundary negotitions deprived the ratepayers of the right to demand a poll on the question of change of boundaries. It was signed by 30 out of the 36 ratepayers in the area. The petition was presented by Messrs K. Cowan and G. Smith. It will be forwarded to the commission by the council.
