Orakei-Korako Investigations "Promising"
Engineers from the Wairakei geothermal power station last week began measuring a promising yield of steam from a new test bore at Orakei Korako. The bore so far had been found to have temperature and pressure as good as any at Wairakei, said Mr A. C. L. Fooks, the project engineer. The bore, known as No.2, promised to be a moderately good one. Bore No. 1, the first to be drilled in the area, had turned out a "dud" although it might yet discharge. Two other holes were being drilled elose by and preparations were under way for two more holes in the same area. Everything depended on the success of those other bores, said Mr Fooks. It
would to get ing one way or another whether Orakei Korako was suitable for developing along the lines of Wairakei. He said a drilling team would soon be sent into the Broadlands area. 16 miles north -east of Wairakei, to start testing.
