NEW SEASON'S FISHING LICENCES MUST BE PURCHASED THIS WEEK
Licences for the Taupo lishing dlstrict must be renewed before the new season begins on July t. Present lieences are valid up to 11 p.in. tomorrow, | June 30. This year, licences will be : be issued in duplicate, which j will be of benefit to fisher- : men and the Department of : Internal Affairs alike. Previously it was not possible to j check on licences lost and ; future issues wili now be able to be traced. Men's whole season licences will cost £3/10/-, women's, £2, and children's, 7/6. Licences will also be available for monthly, weekly and daily periods, the charges being £1/10/-, 15/- and 5/for men; 15/-, 7/6 and 3/6 for women. Children's daily licences will cost 2/6. Last j^ear a total of 71,480 licences of all types was issued to vendors for the Taupo district, valued at £36,819, but it is not yet known how many of these were sold. The iimit bag will be 20 fish per day per licence and fish less than 14in. must be returned to the water, alive or dead, but alive if possible. There were many convictions in the Taupo Magistrate's Court last year due to licence offences. Sports-
men are reminded that anyone who holds a rod with line and lure in the water must have a licence. The fact that there are other \ people in the boat with licences to cover the number ; of rods in the boat does not imake it legal for aiiy unlicjensed person to take a rod ; over. ; Deep trolling in the lake ; last year was generally good, ; but s.tream fishing was patchy. There were some : good runs, however, partici ularly in the Waitahanui River and Western Bay streams.
