Council Won't Provide Funds For Squash

An application from the Tanpo Squash Rackets Club for an advance of £2000 to assist in the erection of squash courts was not approved by the Taupo Borough Council last night. This action was taken on the recommendation of the counciPs general purposes committee, who considered that the club should make a further approach for public support in the form of additional debentures. It was explained that the committee had taken into account that land wras being made available to the club and that site development was being carried out by the council. In making the application, the club had advised that the money would be required for a term of approximately 10 years. It was also pointed out that in one town, the borough had guaranteed a loan instead of making c% advance.
