Swimming Pool For Hilltop School

Parents of children attendlng the Hilltop Primary School will be asked to raise nearly £900 for the construction of a swimming pool at the school. Unanimous agreement for the projeet was given at the last meeting of the Hilltop Home artd School committee. The 45ft. x 15ft. pool will be used for the sole purpose of teaching the children to swim and the intention is to have the pool ready for use in the 1966 school year. Construction of the pool will be done by contract, in accordance with plans and specifications supplied by the Educatiom-Board. However, assistance with the work will be considered by the committee. Included in the cost of the projeet will be a handrail, path surround, footbath and shower, dressing sheds, filtration plant and a suitable fence. Committee members intend to approach every par.ent of present and pre-school pupils in the Hilltop school zone to ask for a donation. Each family will be asked to donate £5 or an amount according to the family1 's means. It is possible that monej raised from gala days, aftei this year, may be used foi the projeet. Miss A. J. HYDE was elected secretary of th Taupo branch of the S.P.C.A at its meeting last week.
