RESERVES PROBLEM MIGHT NOT BE EASY, ― MRS RONA STEVENSTON MP

■While it might not be easy for the Government to put ihe Taupo County Council's proposals for adequate reserves arcund Lake Taupo into effect, she hopes they would go tkrough , said Mrs R. M. Stevenson, M.P., at a puhlic meeting in Taupo on Monday.

"I will do all I can to help," she added. The lake surrounds must be preserved. Such matters were so of'ten lost sight of and it was then too late to do much whep the need was realised, Mrs Stevenson said. She explained, however, that many departments and interests were concerned. "But we have to keep it

before us and do all we can to bring it about," she said. Speaking on the problem of eradicating noxious weeds, Mrs Stevenson said she was afraid a lot of ragwort came from Crown land, where it was not being effectively dealt with. It was wrong that seed from these areas should spread to clean country. "I have nagged at the Minister," Mrs Stevenson said. She added that £640,000 had been set aside for eradication of noxious weeds. Mrs Stevenson said she was surprised that there had apparently been objections to a three-member representation of N.Z. Forest Products in the proposed administration of Tokoroa. AIRFIELD Mr J. O'Toole asked Mrs Stevenson if she could assist in a licensed airstrip being provided on Crown

Land to serve Turangi. There were accident hazards in the type of work men were doing at Turangi and provision for air ambulance operations should be made as well as for other light aircraft operations, Mr O'Toole said. Mrs Stevenson told Mr O'Toole she would be very pleased to help to this end. The Taupo Borough Council had done much to fmprove the town, said Mr R. McLaren. "When is the Government going to shift the eyesore on the corner?" he asked, referring to the MoW camp. "IT1 make some inquiries and do my best," Mrs Stevenson replied. "What will the shopkeepers in the vicinity say," asked Mr O'Toole. That just shows there are i two sides to every question," Mrs Stevenson said.
