Evans And Weir 8-Up In
Four-Ball Event
J. C. Evans and R. W. Weir, with a card of 8 up, won a four-ball best-ball bogey competition at the Taupo Golf Cliib on Saturday afternoon. Runners-up were G. F. Fearn and B. Garliek, 7 up, who played the first nine holes brilliantly, but lost ground over the final half .
The event was staged in conjunction with the second round of the Middlemore Mugs four-ball match-play competition, in which there were several close tussles. C. J. Jones, 39 points, was the winner of an A grade stableford event. He was followed by G. F. Fearn 38 and A. McKinnon 37. The B grade stableford competition was won by H. G. Hullten 38, from J. Ridley 37 and C. S. Currie 36. Sunday's A grade stableford event was won by G. Collins (Putaruru) 38, with Pat Watson runner-up with 36. Another Putaruru player, G. Hamilton, was successful in the B grade stableford competition with 39 points. The next best card was returned by N. George, 36 points. A ladies' stableford event was won by Miss C. Scott, 30 points.
Taupo was the venue on Sunday for the final of the Prebble Cup interclub corppetition between Putaruru and Tokoroa. The cup, which is open to all Waikato clubs, was won by Putaruru by 10 matches to two. The Taupo intermediate pennant teain to play at Taupo against Murupara, Waiotapu Valley, Tauranga and Rotorua on Sunday next is: V. Wilson, J. G. Miles
(captain), G. Marsland, H. Thompson, K. Neill, B. Halverson. The emergencies are P. Brown and P. Arnott. Entries should be made at the clubhouse for the president's v. captain's match to be held on June 26. A social function will be held at the clubhouse in the evening.
