SIMULATED ACCIDENT
A scaffold collapses, three painters are injured and an electrician is electrocuted. This was a simulated accident attended to by members of Taupo St John Ambulance Brigade, in the ambulance hall, on Thursday. Four members of the public acted as patients and
lay in the room with a variety of injuries, includ-j ing, concession, a broken leg and glass imbedded in the palm of the hand. To make the injuries more realistic the patients used plastic wounds , — whieh look very close to the real thing. First aid was administered by two sections of the brigade; the imrjsirig division and the brigade members. After the exercise, comments on efficiency were given by the divisional j surgeon, Dr G. West and Mr B. F. Duffield. Bothj members agreed the eyening was a success and members recieved valuable experience in first aid admmistration. The ranks of the brigade have recently diminished through some of the members being transferred to other centres. There is now an urgent need for boys, girls and adults to join the movement. No knowledge of the brigade work is necessary for the applicant as full training is given by the brigade. First aid, which is one of the primary functions of the brigade, is a subject which can be of use in all walks of life. By becoming a member, a person has the oportunity to assist the community and equip himself with knowledge which would be valuable if accidents occured in the home.
