July 5 Still Opening Date

Wet weather has continued to slow down the completion work at Taupo airport and no great hopes are held out for an earlier opening date than July 5. This date was set about a month ago and, meanwdiile, the final coat of seal on the runway has been partly laid. Another two full days of fine weather is required for this work, which will probably take it into the end of next week. The windsoek is up, but seven days must elapse after sealing before the runway is painted. The De- 1 partment of Cwil Aviation has been advised that the airport is almost ready for approval and it is expected a licence will be granted before the end of the month. The installation of the radio beacon will depend on the availability of a building to house it.
