Youth Centre Queen Carnival

Taupo Youth Centre may hold a queen carnival in Taupo this year, provided sufficient public support is availahle for the project. The suggestion for this came from a representative of Taupo Rotary Club, Dr G. West, who thought practical help would be given for the project by the people of the town. He added that the Christmas carnivals run by the centre were held at the worst time of the year from the point of view of obtaining help. Dr West was of the opinion there was no major public appeal under way in Taupo at present and the immediate future would be the time for the centre to start on a large money-rais-ing scheme. He stressed that the appeal should be to the people in the town and visitors should he of second consideration. Mr A. Mason suggested that if a carnival was to be organised, it should be done by a paid organiser from outside Taupo. The seeretary, Mr N. Sommerville agreed with this and said he did not think there was a person in the town who could alford the time required to organise the project. The meeting unanimously approved the final suggestion in the discussion, given by Dr West, that Radio 1ZA should be called on to advertise the centre and its purpose. A decision to hold the carnival will be discussed at the committee meeting of the centre in about a fortnight.
