"STOP" SIGN FOR CORNER?

Taupo Borough Council will request the Tran^sport Department to install a temporary "stop" sign on the corner of Kaimanawa and Heu Heu , Streets. This followed a discussion by councillors at Monday's meeting on the number of recent vehicle accidents in the borough. Cr D. Davis said there seemed to be a lot of accidents in April and he wondered if anything could be done about it if the council were to work with the department. Gr J. Stanley said the department was asked for a review on intersections and traffic control before the accidents occurred and the assistant town clerk, Mr R. Sinton, replied that the department would prefer to leave the report until the chief traffic officer, Mr E. Muggeridge, returned from Australia. The Mayor, Mr J. E, Story, suggested ' that it might be necessary to increase the time the traffic officer spent in the borough. 'Tt is getting to a stage when we need an officer full time in the borough," he said.
