COMMENTS FROM TAUPO DISTRICT LEADERS
"A mark of Taupo's rapid progress is the opening of two public amenities within weeks of each other — Station IZA and Taupo's new airport. "I make no apologies for linking these two services. Each in its own way will do much to promote town and district alike. I congratulate NZBC on its foresight and on the high standard of building design. I am sure the studio and transmission building will be one of the showpieces of Taupo in the future. "I am sure, too, the district will fully support the new venture and, at the same time, gain much from it as a social service." — J. E. Story, Mayor of Taupo. "While Taupo undoubtedly enjoys many advantages over most districts, one of its drawbacks has been poor radio reception. ^Tn view of broadcast programmes becoming so much a part of life, recognition of Taupo's needs in this respect by the Government and their action in establishing an up-to-date radio station deserves commendation. "Its opening will mark a further milestone of progress in a district with an exceptionally promising potential and we thank those responsible for this foresight." — H. M. Besley, chairman Taupo County Council. "Taupo's radio station is going to have far reaching effecis as a new means of quick communication in this area. "We have reached a further stage in the development of the town now that we have our own radio station. "It is obvious that the business people of Taupo must profit by this new medium for advertising, but possibly of greater significance is the help the station will be in providing a quick means of passing on urgent messages from Taupo's service organisations." — . V. Okeby, president Chamber of Commerce.
