Competition Successes For

Taupo Girls

Two awards went to Taupo girls at the recent Hamilton competitions and one award was given to a third Taupo girl at the Rotorua competitions. Helen Aislabie, 12-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs C. Aislabie, Taupo, gained the following awards at Hamilton for the junior vocal section 12 years and under 15 years: —

Song, traditional or national, 1; song in costume, 2; vocal song, own selection, 2; vocal test, 3; sacred song, very highly commended. She gained aggregate points of 190 in the vocal championship and tied for first place. At the Napier Easter Festival, Miss Aislabie, in the 12 and under 15 years vocal section, was awarded the following places: — Folk or traditional song, 3; song, own selection, 3; song in costume, highly commended; action song, highly commended. Also at the Hamilton competitions, Miss Barbara MacLean, 12-year-old daughter of Mr A. H. K. MacLean, Taupo, gained third place in the junior pianoforte section, restricted to those under 15 years. At the Rotorua competitions, Miss Mischelle Staff, 11-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs P. Staff, Taupo, won the Junior Vocal Cup and gained the following awards: Vocal test, 1; folk or traditional, 1; sacred song, 1 ; song, own selection, 1; song in costume, 3; pianoforte solo, restricted under 12 years, 3.
